The Domaine Clusel-Roch located in the northern part of the Côte Rôtie appellation has been labeled as an organic vineyard since 2002. The vines planted there are from several grape varieties such as Syrah or Chardonnay for example. Three appellations rub shoulders on this beautiful estate: Coteaux de Chery, Côtes-Rôties and since a few years, Coteaux Lyonnais. The 2018 vintage was very good for the estate as each plot-based cuvée offers a beautiful interpretation of its terroir.
Baptiste Clusel was the one who planted the first parcels of Syrah on the estate in 1935. For many years, Baptiste and his son would live mainly on the side crops and it was not until 1960 that the estate began to thrive again. In 1980, Gilbert Clusel made his first wine and planted vines from a massal selection of the oldest vines on the property. In 1990, the Clusel-Roch estate reached 3 hectares. Its conversion to biodynamic farming began in 1984.
