The opnion of Vignapart : "The Ventabren cuvée of Domaine Moulin de la Gardette comes from a clayey-limestone soil planted with old vines that are on average more than 40 years old. After aeration, this red wine relaxes and gives way to a beautiful grenache. Nice wine to keep for at least one hour to air."

Description

The Moulin de la Gardette is a family domain since five generations which is located on the hillsides of the laces of Montmirail, on the appellation Gigondas. The definitive name of Moulins of Gardette was attributed in 1958 and makes a reference to the old windmill pulled formerly over the mound Gardette. Since 1990, the winery is in the hands of Jean-Baptiste Meunier who allies sensitively respect for the traditional values and the technological innovation to produce remarkable Gigondas wines.

The domain counts about ten hectares of old vines of 65 years located on 25 plots of land. They are situated between 100 and 330 meters in height, on grounds dry and well drained with sun exposures and wind. The mistral wind comes to chase away the humidity and to moderate the heat of the summer sun.

The vineyard is worked naturally. The use of weed-killer and artificial fertilizer is totally banned and most of the works are manually realized. Arrived at optimal maturity, the grape harvest is manual and converted into wine in the modern cellar built in 2003. Grapes are slowly forwarded in the tanks of fermentation. The aging takes place during 18 months both in Burgundian oak barrels and in tanks of special cement. The low yields and the quality of the work realized in the vineyard and in cellar are rewarded by the generosity, the depth and the complexity of the wines produced.
