The opinion of VIGNAPART: "Château Pontet-Canet 2015 is a wine of impressive elegance and refinement. Its nose offers aromas of black fruits, undergrowth, chocolate and leather. On the palate, it is powerful, silky, and of great depth, without being exuberant. The finish is tasty thanks to its freshness, and it has a strengthening energy that makes it promising for years to come. An exceptional wine in a great vintage."
Located on the heights of the Pauillac appellation, the Château Pontet-Canet is a wine jewel of the Médoc. Its history dates back to 1725, when Jean-François de Pontet, king's squire and governor of Médoc, acquired these lands. Later, the heirs purchased the neighboring lands of Canet, giving birth to the estate we know today.
The brilliance of Pontet-Canet was revealed during the historic wine classification of 1855 in Paris, where it obtained the prestigious title of Fifth Grand Cru Classé >. At the turn of the 20th century, the estate was bought by Herman Cruse, a Bordeaux merchant of Danish origin, and underwent a complete renovation.
However, it was with the acquisition of the estate by Guy Tesseron in 1975, already owner of Château Lafon-Rochet in Saint-Estèphe, that Pontet-Canet was truly reborn. His son, Alfred Tesseron, realized his extraordinary potential from 1994, converting him to biodynamic agriculture, under the direction of Jean-Michel Comme, his trusted manager. Today, it is Alfred's daughter, Justine Tesseron, who perpetuates this work, making Pontet-Canet shine in the wine world.
The estate extends over 81 hectares and has been entirely cultivated according to the principles of biodynamics since 2004, making it a pioneer and a reference in wine in the world of Grands Crus Classés de Bordeaux. It was certified by the Biodyvin and Ecocert labels in 2010, then by the Demeter label in 2014. The grape varieties of Château Pontet-Canet, mainly Cabernet Sauvignon (62%) and Merlot (32%), are planted on soils gravel, enriched in places with a clay-limestone substrate in depth.
